Homemade Halloween and Costumes

I love Halloween! :) 

This year we are going to be a skeleton bride and Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz.  Yesterday we bought Elizabeth her costume and glow in the dark make-up to giver her a nice eerie glow. I still think she should wear vampire teeth, because that was her original idea, but once she chose the skeleton bride costume, all thoughts of vampire went out the window.

We bought the shoes for Rachel and she has the hair naturally, so now we are still looking for the dress in the correct size.

Every year I try to talk Shaun into wearing a funny wig or something, but he just refuses. Actually, he did it one year (a pirate) and then refused to ever do it again, lol.  Might have something to do with the pictures I took of him....? LOL

Sports and Scrapping

Fall Sports

Today was Rachel's first soccer clinic, and she loved it.   She was fun to watch because I'm not too sure sports are going to be her thing, lol. I supposed we'll have to wait and see, but I suspect she might be the more artsy one of the two. Elizabeth had fun helping her though until it was time for her volleyball game.

Poor Elizabeth though, she is learning a sports lesson this season, lol. First of all, she is the tallest on her team, no big surprise there because she has almost always been the tallest in everything she has done.  But this time, most of the girls are really a lot smaller than her; one girl barely reaches her chest, lol.  And then only one other girl on her team has actually played the game before.

You can just see the frustration on Elizabeth's face as time after time the girls just stood there (in the game) and let the ball land on the floor in front of them while they just watched.  So we're trying to encourage her to be patient and remember when she was the only one in softball that had never played before. In fact, she thought she third base was first base, LOL.

But even through all my 'good try's' and 'wahoo's and 'go team's I have to admit that I was getting frustrated wtih her coach. She just wasn't coaching, she wasn't even correcting the kids positions, and none of them were in the right spots, lol.    So I am trying to remind myself that she's just a college student... and I guess I should perhaps try to help next week during practice instead of silently giggling at the girls efforts.

Costume Ideas

I aked Rachel what she wants to be for Halloween and she immediately responded, "Dorothy"! 

Then I asked her what she thought her sister should be for Hallwoeen and she quickly responded, "a donkey"!  LOL

Nice sister. :)

Little Helpers and New Products

When Shaun works around the house he always has two little helpers with him. The girls follow him around and sometimes he even lets them do part of the work. For example, over the last couple of weeks, Elizabeth has learned how to mix cement, use a level, hammer and an electric drill.

Elizabeth loves to help her dad with fixing things so much that Shaun has even given Elizabeth her very own tool set. It's pink and has flowers on it and everything, LOL.

This means, of course, that she has spent the weekend hammering away and building boxes out of scrap materials. She's very industrious when she wants to be. :)

Now Rachel, on the other hand, tries to be helpful. Here she was helping Shaun dig post holes, but quickly had her attention diverted to the baby salamander that they found. 

He has a new home in the garden now. :)

New Product - Mood Swings

I have a new kit in the store today, called Mood Swings. I don't know about you, but my kids have them, so this is the perfect way to scrap some of those moments that we definitely want them to remember one day when they are parents. :)

School of Hard Knocks

We like to learn things the hard way in our house.

Take Saturday for example, Elizabeth (9 years old) learned that she shouldn't be rude to people just because they are younger than her.  And Rachel (4 years old) learned that it's not okay to punch someone and give them a bloody nose just because they don't say they are sorry.

Ah, the lessons we learn while we are young.

First Day of School

Yesterday was the first day of school, and very exciting it was. The night before, Elizabeth couldn't sleep, as is usual for her personality. She is a worrier, and she was so excited... all I can say is I went to sleep at midnight and she was still awake in her bed. Poor girl was exhausted by the time she arrived home from school on the next day.


But she had a great day, she loves her teacher and one of the kids on our street is in her class, which is a good thing. Of course, I'm sure she wishes it was the girl on our street as opposed to the boy, lol, but oh well.

And Rachel had her first day of Pre-Kindergarten. Oh, she has been waiting all summer for this and has been so excited.  She did great, of course. No problem leaving mom, and no problems with mom leaving her. Although she was a bit snuggly in the afternoon, but overall she loved it.

The first day for her was 'getting acquainted and learning the rules' day.  Here is how she described it.

Mom: Rachel, what did you do today?

Rachel: We sang songs, read books and played outside. And we had cheese!

Mom: Did you learn any rules?

Rachel: Yes! No peeing and no hitting.

Yes, those are good rules, I suppose, lol.

Then she said she gave her teachers her straight face.  What's your straight face, I had to ask. So she showed me:

Yes, that's a very straight face. LOL

Is she a warrior cat or a person? She thinks she's a warrior cat.

I go in to give Rachel a kiss and she sticks out her tongue to lick me.

Me: Uh, what are you doing?
Her: We're warrior cats, and that's how cats kiss.
Me: Hmm, well when you're a person again, then you can kiss me. Okay?

Yeah, I don't like to be licked and I don't care if it is a sweet little four year old girl that I made.

I've changed my mind

I'm glad I didn't delete this blog, because I've decided to come back here. Yes, I reserve the right to change my mind at any time, lol.

Here's the scoop. I've decided to begin designing scrapbooking materials for the digital scrapbooker. And what better name to call myself than 'pick a paper' right?  So I decided I better come back to the pick a paper blog, and here I am.

Do you remember why I called this blog pick a paper to begin with?  Elizabeth was pre-school age I believe, and she came into my room in the middle of the night.

E: Mom, I had a bad dream.
M: Pick a paper.
E: Mom, I had a bad dream.
M: Pick a paper.

Silence.

E: (a little louder) Mom, I had a bad dream!
M:(also a little louder) Pick a paper. PICK A PAPER!
E: What?
Dad: Come here Elizabeth...

So, yes, I was new to digital scrapbooking and I loved it so much I was even dreaming about it, yelling at my little girl to pick a paper already and get on with it, lol.

So, welcome back to PICK A PAPER.
